“I could keep you safe,” he rasped. “They’re all afraid of me. No one would hurt you again, or I’d kill them.” He yanked her closer, and for a moment she thought he meant to kiss her. He was too strong to fight. She closed her eyes, wanting it to be over, but nothing happened. “Still can’t bear to look, can you?” she heard him say. He gave her arm a hard wrench, pulling her around and shoving her down onto the bed. “I’ll have that song. Florian and Jonquil, you said.” His dagger was out, poised at her throat. “Sing, little bird. Sing for your little life.”

-A Clash of Kings, George R.R. Martin

You know you have a problem when you randomly find a picture of Lana Del Rey on someone's blog, who's chiding her for the themes in her music video seeming to portray a complacency toward domestic violence, and you instantly think, "oooh goody...wouldn't this be a great reference photo for some SanSan?!"

Characters belong to George R.R. Martin and HBO's A Game of Thrones. One of my favorite textures right now I must credit to ~Insan-Stock [link]

Thank you so much!!!!  I really appreciate it. :D  It's nearly time for another fan art of these two.

This is so, so, so, beautiful. I'm fairly new to the GoT/ASoIaF fandom - so naturally the first thing I do is look for fanart. I think this is the best I've found! Your line work is lovely; it's stylized, but clearly shows an understanding of human form and proportion (it's crazy how small she looks compared to him). In fact, you've made the Hound, in my personal opinion, far more handsome than I envisioned him. But I don't think it's much of a departure of how he is described, so well done!

The colors in the background and bedspread look like watercolors, giving the whole thing appearance of an illustration is some ancient manuscript (which obviously ties into the genre). The blood on the Kingsguard cloak is also very visually striking.

I'm glad I wasn't just imaging the "sexual overtones" in this scene. I definitely thought they were there, but after reading a lot of other people's take on the it I wasn't sure I had gotten it right. This is definitely more of the feeling I got from the passage. It's gorgeous. A definite favorite!

Ha yes, he just always comes out that way, but I like blaming narrating character bias anyway for his looks. Just kidding.

Thank you SO MUCH!  I really appreciate all your lovely comments.  You are certainly not imagining what was going on with these two! Overtones is right - it's not even undertones!  I think some people just get squeamish about it from a modern perspective.  I tend to romanticize anything someone gives me a chance to. :)

In the crack version of my head canon, Sansa escapes Westeros through a magic portal, ends up in the present day and grows up to become Lana Del Rey.

I really like the texture and flow of the cloth on Sansa's dress and the details on Sandor's armour, great work! :)

Hahahaha I'm trying to incorporate that into the music videos of Lana's that I've seen.  We might have to keep this idea going a little longer and dress Sansa kinda like the 60s, ooh! :)  The lyrics from video games would sort of work (big arms? Sandor, check!  Drunk...seeing stars?  Check.).

Thanks so much!  I can't believe it's already been since May since this one - I keep wanting to redo certain pieces, but time is just flying!

For me I have to say Born to Die is probably my fave Lana song for this pairing, but my ultimate ship song for them has to be 'There's Only Me' by Rob Dougan. Just listen to it (imagine it's sung from Sandor's POV during the time Sansa was in King's Landing as Joffrey's betrothed) and tell me it doesn't send a shiver down your spine. It has the ideal blend of obsessed/creepy/devoted that makes this pairing my guilty pleasure. :D

Also, now I totally want to draw Sansa in 60s fashions!

Haha yes awesome lyrics for it - definitely the good kinda creepy (I guess there's one!)!
